DEVOlution
The explorers clean up the garage almost for the last time.........
The last clear out session will be down in the Garage of Bicycle Lemonade on November 10th and 11th from 10 am to 4 pm.
We will be offering the public parts and bicycles.

Bicycle Lemonade is not dead.

We are integrating more efficiently with Durango Cyclery.
Transitioning The Cyclery more into a Re-cyclery.
A place a used bicycle can be recycled into usable parts and bicycles.
Un-usable steel and aluminum parts will make there way to metal salvage and worn out rubber tires and tubes can also be recycled.
Bicycle Lemonade has been raising funds to obtain a 15 to 20 foot trailer that can house a mobile shop filled with recycled parts (stocked by Durango Cyclery), full tool set up, repair stands, and probably some kind of  boom box for tunes.
The trailer will then travel to events, set up a classroom and build bicycles with and for the people who need them.
Keep posted for more info and come down on Nov. 10th and 11th to rap with us about the future vision of Bicycle Lemonade.

Cleaning House

Here are a few shots of our current workspace.  You can see we have a ton of bikes and (for now) a place to work on them.  Hope this makes you want to drop by and do some wrenching with us!

Bikes in Ignacio

A couple of us got to help the SUCAP kids program from Ignacio last week by tuning and fixing some of their bikes.  They had a couple of their kids with them, so we got to teach them how to do some basic bike maintenance and the all important art of the test ride!  A good time was had by all and it was a great opportunity to help a good program.  This is a group of volunteers who are not afraid to take kids out to places like Moab to ride trails rocking Nexts and Roadmasters all day long!

Reemerging Bike Movement Seeking Motivated Lemoneurs

We at Bicycle Lemonade are rebooting.  We've been out of the communications loop for some time now and are beginning the process of restructuring and structuring to bring our movement further into the community of Durango.

If you're new or looking for an update on the status of BL, here you go:

We are still here!  Due to lack of a public space to work on bikes, we have had to run underground, so to speak for quite a while.  We currently have a ton of bikes in our garage space downtown and a small group of people have been working hard to get bikes out to the community.  It has been a real struggle, however, to try and bring on new volunteers when we, technically, are not supposed to have "the public" in our garage space.

We want your bikes and bike parts.  We are interested in whatever bike stuff you want to get rid of!  Our goal is not to make money, so most of what we put together from Lemonade is given away for free.  Some of the sweeter bikes we build will be sold on consignment to cover costs of tools and parts that we need to purchase to continue our work.  Donations can be dropped at the Durnago Cyclery on 13th next to Buckley Park.  Please do not go into the Cyclery and ask, "where's the free bikes at?"  Not only is that horrible grammar, but someone is likely to throw a wrench at you!

We want you to be a Lemoneur!  Along with getting bikes back on the road and saving them from the landfill, we are passionate about teaching people to build and maintain bikes.  Whether you are a seasoned mechanic and your blood runs Park blue or you just want to learn how to bolt that dobber to the thingy, we want you to be part of BL.  Workspace is an issue for us since we don't have a public space, but we want to get more people involved to move these bikes!

Contact us.  Our email is up and running and we now have a Facebook page for communication.  Email us at bicyclelemonade@gmail.com  This blog will be phased out over time as the Facebook page becomes our primary forum for communication, but your emails will be responded to as well.

Thank you to everyone who has hung with us.  We look forward to working with you and to collectively making a voice for bicycle cause in our community!

NEW NEWS April 29, 2010

Bicycle Lemonade will be at Buckley Park on Sunday, June 20th.

http://www.getarounddurango.com/clean-commute-week/

Clean Commute Week is an effort by the City of Durango to encourage a shift in the way our citizens think about transportation.

Our goal is to promote the use of alternative modes of transportation to benefit people’s health, the health of our community and the environment.

By promoting bicycling, walking, carpooling, and public transportation as environmentally responsible and practical options, we hope to excite people about
the benefits of clean commuting and get them to take a break from their single occupancy vehicles.

We hope that through our events, people will learn that commuting cleanly can be easy, cost effective, and fun.
